My Name Has Changed.

So what, I hear you ask.

It means a lot. As a woman changing my surname back to my maiden name it takes effort, and a challenge to my identity.

I’ve discovered there is a deep meaning behind this for me.

Changing a surname (or any name) needs determination, time and a decision of ‘is it worth it?’

It has taken me a number of years to get around to it. I have had to contact so many official organizations, apply for a new licence, change my banking details -wait for new cards, get a new driving licence, tell my professional and personal network, sort out a new signature and that’s only the beginning!

I haven’t finished the changeover but I’ve started.

I’ve taken the first small steps which are now snowballing and means there is not turning back.

It is still hard but I realised I had become stuck and this was one of the road blocks that was preventing me from moving on in my life.

I am becoming my own person, my own identity but I feel vulnerable. I no longer hide behind the identity of someone else, I don’t belong to someone else as in wife of…. Or Mrs….

I am Joanne Young, a mother, a sibling, a daughter and I am me.

My personal experience and my professional background in nursing and coaching allows me to understand and to draw upon all of this as I’ve been there and I’ve dealt with so many different types of scenarios in my career. I able to see the roadblocks in others so very easily but when it came to me I needed help and I’m grateful to my coach and coaching  colleagues for guiding and challenging me.

What are you not doing because you don’t know where to start, you feel there is too much to do, it’s too hard  and you feel it’s just better to leave things as they are.

Does this decision make you happy, contented, fulfilled?

Let me know if you have undergone challenges or major decisions in your life.

How did you decide you wanted to change? What choices did you have to make?

Your comments will show others it can be done and then more people will benefit from taking charge of their future.

I am Joanne Young.
